The majority of PNG's population is living in the Highlands. There
are about 1.5 million people living here!
Goroka and Mount Hagen are the biggest cities here and are the
staring points for most tours. The Highland people probably have
the most colourful traditional costumes and they proudly display
them each year during traditional "Sing Sing's". Those
are gatherings of many highland tribes, where tourists are welcome
as well.
The nature and wild life are another draw card for the Highlands.
Especially Birdwatchers and butterfly lovers will be amazed at the
variety and beauty of the different species found.
Location
The PNG highlands were the last white spots on world maps well until
WWII.
The rugged mountain terrain is secluded from the coastal areas
by dense rainforest ridges that are up to 12,000 feet high! Mt Hagen
lies at about 8,000 feet, Tari a little higher.

Like with all other activities in PNG, you will need local guides
