about the diving regions of Palau Aggressor:
Palau
Vessel
In
early November, 1994, the newly constructed Palau
Aggressor II set sail for the Republic of Palau from Nichols
Brothers shipyard in Freeland, Whidbey Island, Washington.
The Palau Aggressor II is a 106-foot, 16-passenger catamaran
built and powered for comfort, safety and stability. She is
30 feet wide, diesel-powered and has 110-volt power on board.
The all-aluminium, 2,100 hp, jet-driven power catamaran
is capable of 21 knots, while only drawing four and one-half
feet of water. This feature revolutionized diving in Palau
by allowing high speed access through its outer reefs at
any tide. Cruising in unparalleled luxury, the wave piercing
"z" bow will transport divers to the most remote sites Palau
has to offer in total comfort and state-of-the-art stability.
She can accommodate any special requests or itineraries
when the entire vessel is chartered for private groups.
The salon is an attractively furnished area designed for
comfort and relaxation. The entertainment centre features
a large screen TV, VCR with all video camera capabilities,
CD player and a well-stocked library of books and magazines,
videos, compact discs and slides. A self-service indoor/outdoor
bar is open 24 hours a day. The bar, a popular gathering
place, is constructed of solid teak and has retractable
windows for a fresh open air feeling. Three large dining
tables are also part of this huge room.
Breakfast and dinner are eaten indoors, however, lunch
is often enjoyed alfresco at the bar. A soothing hot tub
is located on the open deck near the bar. The third level
features a "moon deck," a 30-foot wide shaded deck. Here
guests may relax on a chaise lounge or nap in a hammock.
Accommodation
There are 9 Deluxe staterooms with queen size bed and
single bunk above, private head and shower, closet, port
window, individual climate control and hair dryer. Located
on the main deck.
Each deluxe stateroom is fully carpeted and insulated for
sound, storage space is generous. Water makers provide an
abundance of fresh water. All staterooms are just a step
away from the dive deck, and each room has a large window
just above water level.
Palau Itinerary
Each
week the exclusive 18-passenger jet-drive catamaran Palau
Aggressor II and its high speed skiff sets off on an incredible
odyssey. For the next six days, you'll enjoy diving up to
five times a day at distant outer reefs unseen by most divers--without
shuttling back and forth to a resort for meals and sleep.
Just relax, as the high-speed, jet-driven catamaran unveils
Palau's alluring underwater bounty--all set in 82-84 degree
water with visibility exceeding 100 feet.
Guests
arriving in Palau on Sunday morning, are met by an Aggressor
representative at the Palau Airport and taken to the Palau
Pacific Resort. At 4:30 p.m. Sunday,
you will be taken by a Palau Aggressor II crew member from
the hotel to the Aggressor. Guests board the Palau Aggressor
II that afternoon, unpack, relax and enjoy a delicious dinner
served by the onboard chef. Diving begins Monday morning
and ends Saturday afternoon when the Palau Aggressor II
returns to port. Most guests make four to five dives a day.
Throughout your week aboard, you'll be treated to incomparable
live-aboard luxury, and quickly see why Palau Aggressor
II has been named "Best Live-Aboard" in Rodale's Scuba Diving
READER'S CHOICE AWARDS.
The
following Saturday afternoon, the Palau Aggressor II returns
to port. Guests may spend the afternoon shopping, sight
seeing or just relaxing onboard until the evening cocktail
party hosted by the crew. After the party, everyone will
dine at a local restaurant. This is the only meal not included
in the charter. Check-out
is 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
The crew will drive you to the Palau airport or a hotel
if you are extending your vacation.
Features
Towards
the stern of the Palau Aggressor II, guests enter the large
dive deck. This is the area where divers suit up and prepare
their gear. Each diver has his own personal dive station
complete with seat and locker. Most dives are made from
the high-speed skiff. The 30-foot skiff accommodates all
divers. Each diver has a tank rack and seat on the skiff.
All tanks are filled in place on the skiff with either air
or nitrox (extra charge). There is a full line of dive gear
available, as well as certification and specialty courses
including Nitrox certification.
Divers
board the skiff at deck level then the skiff is lowered
into the water by a hydraulic lift. After the dive is made,
the skiff cruises into the lift and returns to deck level
where guests safely disembark. Divers can rinse off with
two freshwater showers on the dive deck. A dive briefing
area, camera table with low-pressure air hoses, camera rinse
tank, head and E-6 photo lab are all part of the roomy dive
deck.
The water temperature averages between 82 to 85F (28 to
30 C) year round. A thin wet suit (1/8" maximum -3mm) or
lycra suit (Darlex or Polartec) is recommended, however,
as divers often make four or more dives a day and can develop
a chill. The visibility ranges from 60 to 100 feet (18 to
35 metres). On the outer reefs and walls, visibility usually
exceeds 100 feet ( 35 metres )
Great photo opportunities abound for the expert and beginner
alike. Onboard E-6 photo processing and underwater camera
rentals are also available. A full range of photo and video
equipment is available for hire on board.
