"There's more to see from the Odyssey"

Odyssee - Truk Lagoon The Odyssey is a 132-foot liveaboard located in Weno, Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia. On board the Odyssey, Truk's newest and finest liveaboard vessel, you'll find amenities consistent with the world's top liveaboards. 12 to maximum 16 divers find ample space on this boat.

Dive Sites

Dive with Odyssey Adventures to see the ghost fleet of Truk Lagoon, the world's best shipwreck destination. Most dives will be done in the lagoon.

Diving in Truk Lagoon is an adventure you will never forget. WWII wrecks are scattered across 77 square miles. The wrecks are covered with life. There are over 300 varieties of hard and soft corals. On the outer reef you'll find mountains of coral that stretch as far as the eye can see, and drops off into the abyss. Here it is not unusual to see pelagic sharks.

Click here for general information about the diving regions of Truk.

Vessel

Odyssee - saloon With its enormous size (40 metres - 132 feet long), the Odyssey offers more amenities and space than the most liveaboard dive vessel do.

The comfortable lounge is where you'll find a variety of ways to entertain yourself. A well stocked bar, TV & VCR and also a DVD player are on board. There is a stereo system; also you find a good library, cards and games. There is a large slide table, to sort your slides. Odyssey also has a well-stocked boutique, also located in the lounge.

With all the thought that went into the diving, they haven't forgotten about sun worshippers! Just behind the dining area is a nice size sun deck with lounge chairs and deck chairs. There is also a covered section where you can still be outside, but not in direct sun. This is also where dive briefings are held.

The Odyssey's dining salon is fully carpeted and air conditioned with two walls of spacious windows for viewing the beauty of the islands in Truk Lagoon.

Delicious buffet-style meals are the norm for the Odyssey. Breakfast includes a hot breakfast plus toast, cereals, fruit and juices. Lunch ranges anywhere from a beach barbecue to lunch on the vessel and snacks throughout the day. Hot, savoury, hearty dinners will complete your exciting day of diving, eating and relaxing. Don't forget the most important part of the meal though…the dessert!

Accommodation

Odyssee - cabin The Odyssey boasts nine large, luxurious staterooms all fully carpeted with private air conditioning controls, windows or large portholes, and private toilet, shower and sink all in every stateroom. Six of the staterooms are equipped to easily accommodate two single travellers in twin beds or a couple in a spacious king size bed.

Also available are two staterooms for single travellers only - they have all the features of the double staterooms and easily accommodate the single traveller in a twin bed. The ninth stateroom's sleeping arrangements are a bunk bed with a double bed below and twin above.

Features

During your stay in Truk Lagoon you will find that the majority of your diving will easily be done directly off the Odyssey while we are moored over the dive site. Once you arrive and set up your gear in your own private seat and protected dive locker, you won't have to take your gear apart until you prepare to go home. Your tank (air or Nitrox) will be conveniently filled at your seat.

You'll find that the spacious dive platform (13' x 6') has plenty of room for all divers. There are two 7' ladders to help you out of the water where you can step up to the convenient freshwater shower to rinse off with. Just 4 steps to the dive deck and you'll find the camera rinse tanks (one on either side of the boat). Past the camera rinse tanks are the gear rinse tanks.

There's plenty of space to hang your wetsuit on the bar just in front of the protected fan blowing warm air out of the engine room!

Itinerary

Odyssey offers regular 7-night cruises (Sunday-Sunday) from to Weno, the capital of Chuuk. Since each day aboard Odyssey offers new adventures, no day is really typical. Nothing is routine and schedules will vary depending on location.

The day aboard Odyssey begins after a 7:00 a.m. hot breakfast with your first dive briefing around 7:45. Depending on the dive site you'll have up to two dives before lunch. During lunch the boat usually moves to a new site. After lunch you have the option to either do another dive, or relax on the either of the sundecks or in the privacy of your own stateroom. A late afternoon dive is also offered. Around 6:30 p.m. a sumptuous dinner will be waiting for you. After dinner you may choose to do a night dive. At night guests usually gather in the entertainment lounge to enjoy a movie, or review what was captured that day in video.

Since most of the dive sites in Truk Lagoon are fairly close to each other, it is easy to move around. The best part about diving aboard Odyssey is that they don't require everyone to dive at the same time. So it is not unusual for you and your buddy to be the only divers on a 500' wreck. For photographers, this offers more opportunities to shoot those popular scenes without having to wait for others to move out of the way.

Special Interests: If you just want to see the beauty of the artificial reefs created through the wrecks this is fantastic diving. If you, however, are interested in WWII history or in a number of particular wrecks, the crew on Odyssey will be gladly assisting you. The ships library has a very good selection of books on this topic.
